Title:Direct Dark Matter Search using Xenon
Speaker:Dr. Qing Lin
Abstract:
The existence of dark matter is one of the most intriguing phenomena in modern astronomy and cosmology. However the nature of dark matter remains unclear so far. The most commonly accepted hypothesis is that dark matter is a beyond-standard particle which, besides gravitational interactions, weakly interacts with baryonic matters. The XENON1T experiment, which uses dual-phase time projection chamber with 2-tonne ultra-pure liquid xenon deployed as target, has reported the most sensitive search for dark matter using data collected since Dec. 2016. This talk gives the analysis and results from this most sensitive dark matter search with XENON1T, together with an outlook of the future dark matter search experiments.
About speaker:
Dr. Qing Lin is a postdoctoral research scientist at Columbia University in the city of New York, working as the Analysis Coordinator for XENON dark matter search experiment. Dr. Lin received his Ph.D. degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2015, where he developed the methodology and analysis framework for searching for light dark matters in PandaX-I. His research interest is to develop new detection and analysis techniques for dark matter direct detection and neutrino experiments. Dr. Lin has published more than 30 scientific papers as co-author and corresponding author in《Physical Review Letters》and other high impact journals, with a total citation of more than 5000.
