Title:  Study of nuclei via charge-exchange reactions

Speaker: Dr. Masaki Sasano

Abstract:

Charge-exchange (CE) reactions at intermediate energies are a powerful tool to investigate nuclear properties in spin-isospin channel. Such properties are fundamentally important for understanding the stability of nuclei related to pion as well as for evaluating weak responses of nuclei that are relevant for studies in fundamental physics and astrophysics. Although CE reactions are just a tool, there are many interesting concepts behind these reactions, especially, concepts such as symmetry, selectivity, collectivity. These concepts are general in studies of many-body problems and also appear in nuclear studies with CE reactions in a rather unique way. In the former half of the talk, I will introduce CE reactions through these basic concepts. In the latter half of the talk, theoretical and empirical studies forming the basis of CE reaction studies will be presented, followed by recent developments and prospects.

About speaker:

Dr. Sasano is a senior research scientist at RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science. His work is mainly focusing on the spin-isospin physics.Sasano finished his Bachelor and Phd studies at University of Tokyo in 2003 and 2008, respectively. After that, he continued working at University of Tokyo as a specially appointed researcher for 1 year, and then moved to National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory, Michigan State University for about 2 years. Since Oct. 2011, he got the permanent position at RIKEN.
