Title: Searching for light and ultralight dark matter candidates with the help from the Sun
Speaker: Haipeng An,Tsinghua University
Abstract:
The scattering of light dark matter off keV thermal electrons inside the Sun produces a "fast" sub-component of dark matter flux that may be detectable in underground experiments. In the first half of my talk, I will present the details of the calculations of this "fast" flux, focusing on two benchmark scenarios, the contact interaction case and the light mediator case. Ultralight dark photon dark matter can convert into radio waves in the atmosphere of the Sun. This signal can be detected by the radio wave telescopes on the earth's surface. In the second half of my talk, I will discuss the recent progress in this direction.
About Speaker:
Haipeng An got his Ph.D. from University of Maryland in 2011. Then he moved to the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics from 2011 to 2014. Then he worked at Caltech as a Walker Burke Postdoctoral Fellow from 2014 to 2017. He joined Tsinghua University in 2017. His research mainly focuses on particle phenomenology and cosmology.
